Favorite Scene(s) - Pretty Packages

I don't know about y'all, but my favorite scene in Pretty Packages was that scene when they were on the porch at the end of the book. Giada had just found out Kentucky was alive and she was pouring her heart out and matching it with corresponding actions to convince him to give her another chance.

Every time I read that scene (which I'm doing during the current editing process), I tear up. I mean, I actually want to bawl, y'all. I wonder if other authors are like that with their books. Or if it's just me being all super sen-si-tive. lol.

By the way, new inserts in Pretty Packages will connect Kentucky with Millsap (Cami's love interest in her new story). I've made the men cousins. Fabian is also connected to someone in Cami's story (Miss Opportunity), but you'll have to wait until that book comes out to see who he's related to.

Updates on Miss Opportunity:

1. The bare bones of the story is written. It is awaiting fleshing out online LIVE!

2. It's longer than Aisha or Delia's stories.

3. It might even be better than their stories, but you'll have to judge for yourself in October.

4. It's grittier than its precedessors. Plus I had to do more reforming of both main characters. As y'all know, Cami is a major trip and Millsap got a hard heart about a few things. The fact that he can't stand gold-diggers made it extremely hard to hook those two up. But I found a way to do it. As a result, their whole relationships is explosive and downright gutter at times (lol. Keep in mind that this is one of my urban books, which includes colorful slang and all).

5. I almost turned Cami's book into a Secular book because of some of the sensitive topics I touch on, but decided to keep it in the Inspirational line. You'll see why in October. Hint: Some bonafide miraculous stuff happens in the story.

I think that's all about Cami's book for now. Stay tuned for more in October!

Back to Pretty Packages, I'm going to finish editing it, upload the finished book to Lulu.com and increase the price. So for those who want to read the story at the low-low, you need to do it by Friday, but the price will be higher once all the line edits are done.

PS. What's your favorite scene in Pretty Packages? Or any of my books?

Pictures of Baron and Aurelia - If they were real

Just in case y’all were wondering what celebrity look-alikes matched Baron and Aurelia in The Professor, here goes…

Thanks for the Input!

I want to personally thank everybody for their input on Pretty Packages. All of it was helpful, even the input that made me revisit why I entered the Secular market in the first place. I needed to reaffirm my peace in that area. Needed to make sure I hadn’t gotten off track somewhere.

To the person that prompted that re-visitation, I want to say a fond THANK YOU for having my spiritual back. I need people who aren’t afraid to call me on the carpet about a few things, even if we end up agreeing to disagree.

Now, in case y’all are wondering which line I finally decided to put/keep Pretty Packages under, it is the Secular line. Here’s why:

1. I can reach more people this way. People who may never go in the Inspirational section of a bookstore, never pick up a Bible, and never go to a church. I'm counting on God to use Pretty Packages (and other books like it) to plant seeds of hope and inspiration into the hearts and minds of the people that I just described above. In order to do that, I need to keep the book in a category that they will be quicker to gravitate to.

2. I didn't want to dilute the fiery attraction between Giada and Kentucky because that's what caused her to want to do so much changing in the first place. That attraction and then her love for Kentucky eventually meant more to Giada than money. Which turned her life completely around.

3. Because of an email that I received from another Christian woman named Clara Ehikioya. Clara almost single-handedly caused me to put Pretty Packages under the Inspirational line. In her very detailed email, she began to list all the life lessons she got out of Pretty Packages. Lessons that include (shortened for brevity):

  • Have faith in yourself as a person regardless of your facial attributes and physical features. They are nothing compared with the real 'you'.
  • Learning to respect our bodies instead of using them in unpleasant ways to make money.
  • How life is too short to waste one minute with the wrong person.
  • How important it is to be forgiving. Whatever is in the past should be left there. How this lesson was demonstrated a lot throughout the book (Our precious sista Clara even named the instances where she’d seen it in the book. It made me tear up).
  • How we should pursue worth-while ventures instead of indulging in extravagant lifestyle.
  • The virtue of telling the truth at all times.
  • How important it is to accept a person in totality knowing that each one has his or her personality and individuality.

And that’s not even listing all of Clara’s points. lol. I love it!

Anyway, Clara then went on talk about the image builders she saw in Pretty Packages and how they affected the lives of others, how the book was a motivator and had life lessons for everyone. She was able to pull all this from the book, despite some of the raw scenes.

Do you see why I HAD to leave Pretty Packages in the Secular line? More than just Christians need to be exposed to such lessons. These lessons need to be made available to ALL!

So it’s official, y’all. Pretty Packages will remain in the Secular line.

Now…

*whispering to my dear friends*

Because you were so kind as to read this long post (lol) and so kind to even visit my websites period, I want to give you a gift. Another FREEBIE. Yay!

This one is a short story (entitled The Professor) that I’m offering for FREE on lulu.com. And don’t worry, there is no 2008 expiration date for this book. The Professor will remain free until I expand the storyline sometime in 2009. And believe me, after you read this story, you’re going to want it to be extended.

Keep in mind that The Professor is under my Secular line, too, so you can elect not to read it if that line is not appealing to you.

For those who are interested in reading The Professor, here’s the link and the blurb to get you started. And THANKS again, everybody!

Enjoy!

Blurb for The Professor:

Willing to do whatever it takes to finish college and help her family out of poverty, Aurelia Bunting does the very thing that she hates – she becomes an exotic dancer. On top of that, her steady boyfriend just cheated on her with her best friend and she has a large tuition bill due.

Fresh from a breakup, too, Professor Baron Weaver is not so deep in grief to overlook the beautiful Virgin Island native that attends his brother’s bachelor’s party.

Since anonymity is key at events like these, Aurelia has no idea that the man she’s dancing for is going to be one of her new professors this year. If either of them had known, they would have never even considered finding comfort in each other’s arms.

Free Preview is over

The free preview of Pretty Packages officially ends today (now, in fact). Thanks for all the input from the fast readers. To the more leisure readers, I will be keeping an eye out for your input in the days and weeks ahead.

Just in case there are some of you who didn't make the preview deadline, I'm leaving Pretty Packages up on the Lulu.com site since people may still want to read it without giving feedback. However, a small price tag ($2 USD) has been attached to it since it is still unedited and not in its final form yet.

Here’s the link to access Pretty Packages at the new price:

Enjoy!

Need Your Input

There’s a book (Pretty Packages) I wrote last year that I’m still debating about whether I should keep it under my Secular line (and pen name – Mi’Chelle Dodson) or revamp key sections and include it under my Inspirational line (and official name – Suprina Frazier).

For the next 24 hours, I’m offering this book as a FREE download on the Lulu.com site for your previewing pleasure. It’s full-length, but unedited, so overlook any mistakes you see since it’s still a work in progress. In fact, it’s going to remain a WIP until I decide which line to put it under. That’s where you come in.

All I need you to do, dear readers, is just read the book, and come back to this blog and tell me which line you think it should be under. Secular? Or Inspirational?

Here’s the link to access Pretty Packages:

Here’s the blurb for Pretty Packages:

Giada thought she was too good for Kentucky. Certainly too pretty to be with an average looking guy like him. On top of that, he didn't have the bankroll she required. And yet none of that seems to matter when the sparks fly between them. Soon this beauty queen is in heavy pursuit of the very guy that she shunned earlier. The guy that she suddenly realizes is actually too good for her.

Enjoy and thanks in advance for your input!

Suprina/Mi’Chelle

PS. Since Pretty Packages is currently under my Secular line, be forewarned about the love scenes. If it crosses over to the Inspirational line, the heat of those scenes will be reduced considerably.
