Miss Opportunity - Ch. 37.2

Cami rode around town for awhile in order to calm down. She let Millsap’s mother get under her skin a little bit too much today. One would think Cami would be used to that kind of scene considering her dealings with her own mother. And Cat was much worse than Bonnie.

Mama Ingram must’ve spoiled me, Cami mused, pulling into the parking lot of a local gas station. She needed to fill the tank up again after all the extra gasoline she’d burned on today’s long shopping spree.

I wish I’d gone shopping with Mama Ingram instead, Cami mused, parking behind a black Thunderbird. I bet she wouldn’t have acted like a fool.

Cami was right on point about Mama Ingram. Despite spending a couple of years as a homeless woman, Mama Ingram maintained her classiness and her faith, though the latter had been severely tested once upon a time. As for spoiling Cami, the mahogany-skinned woman spoiled every young person she met in order to make up for the two sons she lost to street violence.

In mothering Cami, Mama Ingram caused her to temporarily forget that bad mothers still existed. Even the one in her very own family.

I won’t forget again, Cami mused, determined to be extra guarded around bad mothers like Cat and Bonnie from now on.

Opening the car door, Cami suddenly heard…

Slap!

And just as suddenly she felt…pain on the right side of her face.

“Who in the—” Cami didn’t get to finish that sentence before she had to duck to avoid another blow to her face.

Quickly assessing who her attacker was, Cami started to put into practice all the things she learned in prison. Within a few short minutes, her attacker was on the ground drooling at the mouth. Unfortunately, the police were called by that time, which meant…

Cami was going back to jail!
