Miss Opportunity - Ch. 25.4

Calling Mike-Mike as soon as he backed out of the boarding house’s driveway, Millsap barely gave the man a chance to say hello before he blurted out a question. “Man, do you think Cami got roots on me or something?” he asked, driving away as fast as legally possible.

“Huh? What?” Mike-Mike replied drowsily, rubbing some of the sleep out of his eyes.

He’d had a late night with Tonja, who pretended to sleepover at her mother’s house again, but had been with him instead. She just left for her mother’s three hours ago in order to cover her tracks and to be there when her daughter woke up. Mike-Mike had gone back to bed to rest after the vigorous workout they’d had before Tonja left. Now he was trying to ignore his current irritation about waking up alone once again.

“I asked if you thought Cami had some kind of roots on me. You know, voodoo,” Millsap reiterated to his sleepy friend.

“Naw. What would make you even think something like that?” Mike-Mike asked, forcing himself to concentrate on his friend’s dilemma instead of his own. He also rubbed the rest of the sleep out of his eyes.

“Because I woke up this morning with an overwhelming urge to see Cami today,” Millsap replied. “Then I went out and bought her son a few gifts just to have a legitimate excuse to do so.”

“Did you see her?”

“Oh, yes, and then some.” Millsap blew out a shuddering breath. “Man, it was even better than before.”

“I knew it!” Mike-Mike exclaimed, fully awake now. “I knew you were going back for seconds one day. I’m surprised you held out this long considering how bad you and that girl seem to want each other.”

“Now I want thirds,” Millsap replied, licking his lips. He could still taste her sweetness on his mouth, causing his lower body to stir hungrily again. “Maybe even fourths. That’s why I think she might have roots on me. I can’t seem to stay away from her. It seems like the more I get, the more I want.”

Mike-Mike chuckled. “Did you ever stop to think that maybe it might be love?” He was living proof that great sex could someday turn into love if a person’s heart was willing and open to the idea.

“Please.” Millsap scoffed. “This playa ain’t having none of that love stuff. Love makes you weak.”

“Speak for yourself,” Mike-Mike replied, not about to embrace that erroneous philosophy. “As for Cami having roots on you, I seriously doubt that she’s into anything spiritual, Christian or otherwise. And if you’re so convinced that it ain’t love, then you must be sprung on her laffy-taffy instead.” Mike-Mike chuckled again, laughing at his own reference to a favorite childhood candy.

“If that’s the case, then I know exactly how to get un-sprung.”

“How?”

“Find better candy. Which means this brotha getting ready to do a lot more dating,” Millsap concluded, deeming that the perfect solution to his problem, despite the fact that it hadn’t worked thus far for him.

But hey, when a person was that deep in denial, almost anything made sense to him/her.

He is about to get his feelings hurt because Cami is at the point where she will not play second fiddle to another woman.

His plans are about to backfire!
