Miss Opportunity - Ch. 22.5

“Did you want something, Millsap?” Cami asked when he finally approached her. She hoped he’d say, ‘Yes, I want you, baby’.

Millsap hesitated for a few seconds, as if he’d been about to say that very thing. What came out of his mouth instead was, “I came to give you this.” He unfolded the fingers of his right hand and revealed the stash of twenties she’d won tonight. “You left them in the pool,” he said, handing her the money.

“Thanks,” Cami said, receiving her prize. For a woman who loved money, she’d actually forgotten all about it while playing with Millsap in the pool. “Now I don’t have to dip into my savings to get my hair redone.”

“I thought about that. That’s why I put in a little extra for you,” Millsap replied. “And for your friend, too,” he added, nodding towards the silently listening woman in the car.

No wonder the outside bills are so dry, Cami mused, looking down at the stack in her hand now.

This stack was a lot bigger than the old one. A quick estimate revealed that Millsap had thrown in at least three hundred more dollars to the original three grand. Cami, Towanna, and Mama Ingram could all get their hair done off of this stash. And this was even without the deep discounts Towanna and Mama Ingram had at the salon Aisha inherited from her brother Dominic.

Suddenly overwhelmed by his generosity, Cami looked back up at him with shiny eyes of emotion. “I…I didn’t expect this.” She smiled. Then seizing the moment, she flung her arms about him and gave him a hug of gratitude. “Thanks again, Millsap,” Cami said, pressing her body seductively close to him in all the right places.

Millsap let out a low moan of need upon contact. His arms immediately went about her narrow waist and pulled her closer. “Mmm…baby,” he uttered in a fervent whisper close to her left ear.

“Just say the word and I’m there,” Cami whispered back, letting him know that she was available tonight if he’d just get rid of Leza. “It’ll be even better than before, baby,” she added, again in a whisper for his ears only.

Not even Towanna could hear the words Cami said, though she was straining her ears in the car at this very moment.

Millsap let out another low moan at that open invitation. He squeezed Cami closer, even as he wrestled with himself.

Should he? Shouldn’t he? Would he? Wouldn’t he?

“I can’t,” Millsap finally replied in a firm tone, catching himself before things went too far. Clearing his throat, he promptly withdrew from her. “See you at work on Tuesday, Cami,” he concluded, inadvertently letting her know that he was very much aware of her work schedule and perhaps a little bit more. Then he turned around and quickly walked away before he changed his mind.

“Goodnight, Millsap,” Cami replied, keeping her disappointment to herself as she watched him walk away.

When Cami finally got in the car, an excited Towanna said, “Dang, girl. Let me in on your secret because you got that man sprung, too.” She’d watched their interaction from the car and, of course, tried to hear as much as she could.

“I wish I did have Millsap sprung,” Cami replied, closing the passenger door behind her. “If he was, he wouldn’t have walked away just now without asking me to come back to his place tonight. He definitely wouldn’t be getting in the car with Leza.”

“Well, he must be something. Because based on what little I heard, Millsap just gave you enough money to get both of our hair fixed,” Towanna said, starting up the car. “How many men do you know will do that? Hook you and your girlfriend up?”

“None that I know of,” Cami replied, mulling that over as she tallied up the money in her hand, intent on splitting it three ways – for her, Towanna, and the woman she wished was her mother.

When the money was evenly split, Cami realized that she still had enough from her cut to get a new pair of fake eyelashes since the last pair had gone down the pool drainage system tonight. If only she could get the man she wanted just as easily.

Paula: I thought so. Maybe if/when this book is made into a movie, that song can be playing in the background.

Or maybe Usher's song, 'You got it bad'.

LOL

They both can work......

A movie HMMMMMMMMMMM...........

That sounds wonderful because this book is the best out of all three. I like them all but something about Cami and Millsap just makes this one better. LOL

I see a movie in your future or like I told you before and AUDIO BOOK. This would be PERFECT!!!!!

Paula: From your mouth to God's ears.

As for this being the best book of the three, I was feeling the same way when I started plotting and writing Cami's story. But I thought it was just me and wishful thinking. I honestly didn't think I could get any better than Delia's story. But then again, I didn't think I could get better than Aisha's story, Gene and Kylisha's story...

Good Lord!

*Praying openly at this sudden revelation*

God, thank You so much for increasing my capacity to tell a good story and be a blessing in the process. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
