Pursuing Mrs. Regrets - Ch. 13.2

“Miss Valentine, so nice to see you again,” Royal said, making his presence known as he stood beside her.

“Oh, hi, Dr. Seeger.” Delia reluctantly turned to face him.

As soon as their eyes met, the heat level rose between them. It was obvious that they were both remembering their night together…vividly.

Royal cleared his throat and blinked away the desire in his eyes. “What brings you by the hospital today? I hope nothing is wrong with you and your family.”

Delia shook her head. “No, we’re all fine. I’m here on business today.” She turned back to the nursery window.

“Store business?” Royal faced the newborns, as well.

“Yes, I have a small contract with the gift shop downstairs for my line of new mothers care packages. I just finished making this week’s delivery.”

Royal smiled over at her. “It’s good to know you’re spreading your wings like that. I’m very proud of you.”

Delia smiled. “Thanks,” she replied, chancing another look at him.

Bad move.

The man was just too handsome to look at. Especially up close. Especially when he smiled. Those dimples, those dimples, those gorgeous dimples.

When their eyes met again, heat singed both sets of pupils. Delia inhaled sharply at the intensity of their attraction. Royal let out a low moan. The air around them sizzled with sensual undercurrents.

“I…I came up here to see the babies after my delivery,” Delia stammered out, trying to keep things on a platonic level. If only her words didn’t sound so jumbled. So redundant.

“I see.” Royal had a knowing look in his eyes, as if he saw more than the point she was trying to make with her words.

“Being around babies always relaxes me.” Delia turned back to the window, hoping the newborns would relax her now. Desire had her coiled tighter than a snake.

“Babies tend to relax me, too,” Royal said a bit on the husky side. He cleared his throat again. “Makes me regret not being a pediatrician every time I see one.”

“You wanted to be a pediatrician?”

“Yes, but I was needed more as an OB/GYN. Even so, every time I deliver a new baby, I want to be the one to take care of them when they’re sick. To make sure they stay well.”

“You would have made a great pediatrician,” Delia said, chancing the briefest of looks his way.

“Thanks, Delia,” Royal replied. Then he changed the subject altogether. “Listen, I wanted to apologize for speaking out of line last week. I didn’t mean to mock your…purchasing decisions,” he said, delicately referring to that adult toy she’d bought the night of the accident.

Delia reddened slightly with embarrassment at that reminder. “Apology accepted,” she replied, keeping her gaze straight ahead. “By the way, you were right. You were much better than some toy,” she added, remembering that important fact, too.

Royal inhaled sharply this time. He looked to and fro, before speaking again. “There’s more where that came from, baby,” he whispered when he was sure that no one could overhear them.

Delia moaned this time as passion overrode her common sense. It made her heady to think that a man like Royal would be so interested in her.

“I’d like to have a little bit more,” Delia said, speaking just as discreetly, but no less boldly.

“When?”

“Now.” Delia looked him fully in the face now with an unwavering gaze.

Royal let out a low groan at the potent desire in her eyes. His body hardened even more. “Follow me,” he said. Then he led her to an empty room at the end of the long hallway.
